This quote made a meaningful impression in my mind as it illustrates the need for money by the narrator and his mother. Money is a necessity for everyone and in “The Rocking-Horse Winner” this is made apparent from the house itself is saying these words. Also, these words struck me as familiar due to my family’s background and socioeconomic status coming from a third world country causing this quote to strike me as very personal. The image I chose was of an a small mansion type house that looked very running down because in the story the narrator and his mother had financial issues but still felt the necessity to keep up appearances
